I feel like I don't deserve to work on comics or do sim racing or go see a movie I might like.... I don't even really know where that guilt is coming from.<br /></p>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-59969243802609712642022-10-12T14:04:00.004-04:002022-10-12T14:05:22.294-04:00<p>In grade school when talking about things like weather, the climate, or just other big scientific concepts, kids would shout out ideas like "Why don't they just build giant electric fans to blow the hurricanes and tornadoes away from cities and people". An 8 year can be forgiven for not understanding why something like that isn't feasible , and yet I know adults who still think like this. Perhaps not about the fans specifically (though it wouldn't shock me), but this notion that whatever (not even) half-baked idea pops into your head is a good one and are baffled as to why none of the experts in the field have thought of this yet.</p><p></p><div><div dir="auto"><div class="x1iorvi4 x1pi30zi x1swvt13 xjkvuk6" data-ad-comet-preview="message" data-ad-preview="message" id="jsc_c_1uv"><div class="x78zum5 xdt5ytf xz62fqu x16ldp7u"><div class="xu06os2 x1ok221b"><span class="x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x1lliihq x1s928wv xhkezso x1gmr53x x1cpjm7i x1fgarty x1943h6x xudqn12 x3x7a5m x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u x1yc453h" dir="auto"><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;">Not exactly the same thing but I'm reminded of a time years ago when ipods first came out, I got one and a co-worker scoffed, saying "that's just a hard drive with a screen on it, I could make that at home". I’m not sure what I’m thinking about right now to be honest. When I had this thought it was 3am and I was very tired. My mind went to the cosmos... to the quantum. All the theoretical physics videos I’ve been watching lately have given me the drunken impression that I understand all of it. My mind went to places of a societal/social nature. Of course now I can’t remember exactly what it was because I was tired and high as kite. Something about how sometimes we don’t recognized things until we give them a name, then they’re clear as day. Giving it a name also rigidly defines that thing though... and whatever the circumstance, there are those that will try to cram everything into neatly labeled boxes when reality is much more messy. ( from the notion that ancient people’s didn’t see the color blue because they didn’t have a name for it. The truth is they saw the color blue, it just didn’t stand out as all that unique to them from just being a Shade of black. )</p><p>This last year was crazy, of course... but I think I was in shock for a lot of it. Seems like a dream now. I’m just now starting to process a lot of the fucked up nature of it.</p>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-35078880723090444332021-01-11T12:38:00.001-05:002021-01-11T12:38:05.312-05:00<p> Welcome to the Dumb Revolution</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilrXp-F8iHYTEObBUELuxOWcGIEQf-zZndNN0lu2focYtyENde15uO4cfpV3WUY2NX2CwuUnpwdUMfMOBr1dZSc9A28spS0pS1enhiQKIOji-zL6JgGR7FFuNC9HMjGIRPlFT8/s1068/us-capitol-insurrection-AP_21006789526874-scaled-e1610136815465.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="712" data-original-width="1068" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilrXp-F8iHYTEObBUELuxOWcGIEQf-zZndNN0lu2focYtyENde15uO4cfpV3WUY2NX2CwuUnpwdUMfMOBr1dZSc9A28spS0pS1enhiQKIOji-zL6JgGR7FFuNC9HMjGIRPlFT8/w400-h266/us-capitol-insurrection-AP_21006789526874-scaled-e1610136815465.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPNv__elqwxcDXIL2z9oSnwl6_rte45fB3EFrC0nU624kBaIW0uXJZfM3u1LWJx6217LHjXMHO5zmLy9FIs5axMHj2svRtg9DkbloQfBDM-2eaTxzcCMzpm34H9pg5hEyXvHSd/s800/20200107_capitol_reuters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="800" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPNv__elqwxcDXIL2z9oSnwl6_rte45fB3EFrC0nU624kBaIW0uXJZfM3u1LWJx6217LHjXMHO5zmLy9FIs5axMHj2svRtg9DkbloQfBDM-2eaTxzcCMzpm34H9pg5hEyXvHSd/w400-h284/20200107_capitol_reuters.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAwYj4pZEBfIdclsq3ZFLG6Pp8-NjBknzSUh9HVoLX5oAhLIdKOWIXiOychTyPKkE6JNizv0G6mL2dIZcOaWqdFXk0-GZyskHIGzNMnVdwIMCYBPoyxdK7x5nLQa6pUezA-CdF/s750/US-Capitol-riots_2_CNNPH.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="750" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAwYj4pZEBfIdclsq3ZFLG6Pp8-NjBknzSUh9HVoLX5oAhLIdKOWIXiOychTyPKkE6JNizv0G6mL2dIZcOaWqdFXk0-GZyskHIGzNMnVdwIMCYBPoyxdK7x5nLQa6pUezA-CdF/w400-h240/US-Capitol-riots_2_CNNPH.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvm5n6ux6UCCGeBO6k26K6_4MUo-zIysrg3RgEYJXHQG_fW7MBpyS8UhEA2tKbJjSFpasuntRpE5aFBANoNgXij3sWnCtd498IrOVu_RmC1H3atF_SrgdFNkQQgQNPhyJVZgl2/s800/Confederate-flag-in-US-Capitol-800x450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvm5n6ux6UCCGeBO6k26K6_4MUo-zIysrg3RgEYJXHQG_fW7MBpyS8UhEA2tKbJjSFpasuntRpE5aFBANoNgXij3sWnCtd498IrOVu_RmC1H3atF_SrgdFNkQQgQNPhyJVZgl2/w400-h225/Confederate-flag-in-US-Capitol-800x450.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> </div><br /> <br /><p></p><p><br /></p>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-26391091470797525062020-12-23T16:16:00.003-05:002020-12-23T16:16:56.246-05:00<p> 325,000 dead.</p><p> </p><p>That's all for today.<br /></p>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-51105644071444157302020-10-07T22:26:00.001-04:002020-10-07T22:26:40.317-04:00I find it funny when liqour is referred to as "the hooch".Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-66538503598000314592020-07-13T12:22:00.002-04:002020-07-13T12:39:04.112-04:00Pumpkin Diary Entry 4<span><span data-offset-key="42ndo-0-0"><span data-text="true">One of the most frustrating parts of this whole mess we find ourselves in is that for the first time in history we had the infrastructure and technology to ride out a pandemic with relative ease and with minimal death. I'm not saying losing your job is "easy", if that's something that happened to you, but in terms of meeting basic needs and maintaining some semblance of our normal lifestyles? We had it made in ways that maybe even 10 or 15 years ago weren't possible. Smart phones to quickly order groceries and take out from companies like instacart, grubhub, etc. Zoom/similar apps to work from home for office workers and for people to able to see the people they've had to stay distant from. You don't need to go to a video store or even redbox to rent a movie any more. Amazon, no matter how you feel about the company or how much they've taken over retail, they exist and have made it insanely easy to get things sent to you quickly and cheaply when all of those retail stores had to close. People in more rural areas that maybe don't have fast internet or access to some of these services wouldn't be affected by the infection spread like people in cities anyway. It's like 2020 was the year MADE for a pandemic. We should have just laughed it off, beat this thing within a couple of months, and been like "That's all you got 2020?!". It should have been the most convenient pandemic in human history. We HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED yet still a bunch of you fools couldn't handle that. Now 130,000+ people are dead (so far), and we're dragging this thing out into the fall while having national discussions about what an acceptable death-rate for infected school children might be.</span></span></span>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-12883489032070019962020-05-25T13:44:00.002-04:002020-05-25T13:52:40.538-04:00Pumpkin Diary Entry 3<p style="background-color: white; margin: 0px 0px 6px;"><font color="#1d2129" face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><span style="font-size: 14px;">All that Constitutional sanctity and American exceptionalism horseshit that was rammed down our throats growing up is really coming back to bite us on the ass.</span></font></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0px 0px 6px;"><font color="#1d2129" face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><span style="font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></font></p><p style="background-color: white; margin: 0px 0px 6px;"><font color="#1d2129" face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif"><span style="font-size: 14px;">People know we have a constitution, and they know that it's important, they just don't know specifically what's actually in it, the limits of what's in it, and how the things that are in it can be amended. I could use a code word. How about "Pumpkin". It's the Pumpkin Diaries from now on.<br />
<br />
It's going on week 3 or 4 of the lockdown. We're having days with over 2000 recorded pumpkin deaths. Southeast MI is getting hit hard, especially Detroit. From a mental health standpoint, I'm not really sure what the correct level of dread I should have on any given day. It's not just dread about the pumpkins, it's dread about the future, our jobs, our way of life such as it is. The GOP asshats think guys like me don't understand, but we do... we're just willing to accept the lives of the vulnerable are more important. From a practical standpoint the dread level doesn't really matter because I have no control over viruses or the political goings on surrounding them. At the start of this thing I was calm and collected. "Would it help to worry?" I would say. I need to take my own advice, clearly. Being high almost every night seems like the only thing getting me through sometimes.<br />
<br />
Grandma is doing a bit better and is recovering. Thankfully there was no need for a respirator (which they wouldn't have put her on anyway). Arrangements are being made for where she'll go next. The rest of the family who weren't hit as bad are also doing better, but worn out.<br />
<br />
C is hanging in there. She has her bad days dealing with shit just like I do. Fortunately so far they don't seem to overlap too badly so we've been able to help each other. "Bad day" is just a relative term though. That dread is ALWAYS there. It's just how well you can manage to temporarily beat it back and get the bare minimum done for the day.<br />
<br />
What's been on my mind today though is *all the things that are on my mind*. I'm getting to a point in my life where I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with my inability to organize my thoughts. I don't know that in any sort of grand sense I think it matters that I do... then again, why apologize for not wanting my brain to feel like a trainwreck all the time. Maybe that's mostly what it's about. Not needing to shout my bullshit at the world, but just being able to have it organized so it's not cluttering up my brain and I'm not tripping over shit. This makes me wonder though, am I assuming this stuff necessarily should lend itself well to organization... when that might not be the case. I guess that's what writing is, in a sense? Translating complex ideas into words, hopefully in a "simple enough" way that they can be understood by someone.<br />
<br />
Random things that have been on my mind lately that I hope to write more about:<br />
<br />
-Art<br />
-Music<br />
-My role in society<br />
-EntanglementTrevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-29407270675917567152020-04-04T22:46:00.001-04:002020-04-05T13:03:48.017-04:00C19 Diary Entry 1<div style="text-align: left;">
I suppose for today this is just going to be some informally structured random thoughts from the last week or two.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">My grandmother is in the hospital + for covid19. She can breathe on her own, as of right now things are looking up. I've just been trying to distract myself since there's nothing I can do. Can't visit hospitals right now.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yes, Trump is making things worse, but we knew that would happen. This thing may not have gotten so out of control so fast if his #1 priority wasn't the stock market. The map of the US with all of the various hot zones? That's the price of capitalism-at-any-cost. Governors and local leaders in mostly red states are taking a combative attitude toward CDC advice. This is the cost of ignoring science and adopting a general anti-scienctific attitude and mindset. Scores online believe dangerous conspiracies that are going to kill people. This is the cost of allowing right wing trolls free reign to try and shape the reality to their liking. ... the point I was really trying to make is that it's not just Trump fanning the flames, it's the millions of people that put him in office as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
C and I were talking about what "good" might come out of all of this. Though the dolphins appearing in Venice story was fake, one does wonder what the net affect of the recession/depression is going to be on the environment. I would certainly never promote the human suffering of a depression for the purpose of advancing some sort of "Green rebirth" idea (sorry conspiracy theorists, nobody wants that)... but, since everyone in our government seems hellbent on making all of this worse and we're just watching this slow-motion train wreck. We already know that cases of sickness from smog in Beijing and elsewhere in China is way down and they estimate there will be thousands of lives saved from pollution related respiratory illness. Could this whole experience be a turning point in the climate change battle (for the US anyway)? A depression won't single-handedly fix the problem, but it might be enough of a kick in the ass to make us change course. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Mixed messages about face masks. Now the CDC says everyone should have them in most public situations. Guy on FB posted about having some that his company started making and I found myself frantically emailing this guy back and forth (he didn't have a shopping cart set up). I hated that I got that nervous about finding a particular supply. I still don't have any gloves. Not much hand sanitizer.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Oh yeah, the white house said the other day that Federal stockpiles of emergency equipment isn't for states to use. Because states aren't actually a smaller subset of the United States. The crux of the argument seems to be that if they let states use the stockpile, then they'd no longer HAVE the stockpile, and we can't have that. Nobody seems to have a good answer on what the point of stockpiling this stuff was if we're not going to use it for EXACTLY the purpose it was intended. Later they changed the definition of what the stockpile is "for" on the official gov't website to match the bullshit Kushner or whoever let fall out of their mouths.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That's about all I've got the energy for right now.</div>

The evidence of criminal bribery and abuse of power is overwhelming, and yet, the senate protects him. What can one do when the entire senate has lost its collective mind and is protecting a flagrant mad-man. What's worse is that 2020 reelection polls are CLOSE. When people are this ignorant and have swallowed this much of the kool-aid, there's really nothing to be done. Anything that doesn't fit in with their narrative they make shouts of deep-state conspiracies, and their base believes them. Hell, to a degree THEY probably believe that crap. Facts in the world make you look bad? Conspiracy. It couldn't possibly be that just simply have it astronomically wrong. No evidence for my argument? Conspiracy. Mountains of evidence to the contrary? Conspiracy. Look, Democrats aren't trying to deny science and limit our access to our government paid scientists' information. They aren't doing their best to destroy public schools. They aren't trying to limit women's rights, they are trying to expand them.They aren't jailing children, denying them food and medicine, and ripping apart their families just to scare others into staying away. Plus a ton of other important issues that they are diametrically opposed to the Republicans about.</span></span><br />

We can see what happens when people like Trump or Bush get in office, they run wild and have a lot of support from bought-off Senators and Congresspeople. <span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; white-space: pre-wrap;">I don't think we need to the light torches and get the pitchforks out just yet over a relatively common opinion on abortion a guy shared 2 or 3 years ago. I don't agree with him at all and the march-4-lyfe people are turds but if your criteria for liking a comic strip or any other form of media is that the creators believe exactly all the same things you do, I've got some news for you (especially when the thing they're creating is entirely apolitical). Actual subject matter and degree need to be accounted for, sure. If a creator is going online frequently spouting off Nazi shit, that's another matter that's impossible to ignore. And if that person starts using their craft as a way to spread those ideas that you don't agree with, logically it also becomes a different matter entirely. I get political with my comic sometimes with the full understanding it may turn some people off and I might lose a reader or two, or otherwise limit my audience, but that's a price I'm willing to pay. All that being said he made a pretty mild tweet 2 years ago, he's not standing outside of abortion clinics with images of dead fetuses screaming at pregnant 15 year olds. Chill. It really isn't worth it.</span>Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-17151125976217318492019-03-15T17:07:00.001-04:002019-03-15T17:07:52.108-04:00New Zealand attacks In response to: <a href="https://bit.ly/2O6905s">https://bit.ly/2O6905s</a> "The Shooter’s Manifesto Was Designed to Troll"<br />
<br />
How much of that matters at this point? Someone who believes the bullshit enough to murder dozens of people... obviously the hate is genuine. Setting aside the killing for a moment, and as an example, when someone makes homophobic jokes over and over but claims they're "just joking", it isn't too hard to imagine it's a serious problem disguised as a joke. And again... the killing part of it. Obviously muslims were killed for being muslims. The video and manifesto were perhaps meant to obfuscate the motive... but the way in which it was done points directly at poisonous, racist, right wing "troll culture". Like those photos cropping up of people throwing the "white power" hand signal as a supposed act of trolling. Yes, on some superficial level they might have been "joking" to illicit a reaction... but their actions are a window into their mindset. Non-racist people would have a problem even making the joke. The "joke" in-and-of-itself is a provocation and a racist act. But again... THE KILLING makes their motives and mindset crystal clear in this case. People are fucked up and have been radicalized in bizarre ways. An apparent motive, hidden behind a meta-motive that just points right back to the original, more obvious motive.Trevor McKeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02589998393924359830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5385534.post-42149275906465120812019-03-08T11:19:00.002-05:002019-03-08T13:54:23.017-05:00USWNT PayIn response to: <a href="https://nyti.ms/2EVhtWa">https://nyti.ms/2EVhtWa</a> "U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Sues U.S. Soccer for Gender Discrimination"<br />
<br />
This has been brewing for awhile. I had a conversation after the last World Cup cycle with my sister; Her argument was, justifiably, that equal work deserves equal pay, and in this case the women outperform the men in their own competitive field. The obvious hole in all of this was that spectator sports are entertainment, and entertainers make money based on how much revenue they rake in. It's true that during the last world cup year (2015 for women) the USWNT did bring in more in terms of revenue, but overall the men's sport does (or did) (just like NBA players make more than WNBA players, and so on).I believe that both of these arguments have merit, however, at this point, even if that's still true (I'm not digging into revenue stats right now, and it doesn't really matter) my attitude now is just "F*ck it, make the pay scales the same, even if that means siphoning revenue from the men's side to do it" Be a model for the rest of the world. Title 9 is, in part, what allowed the women's sport to become so strong in the US, and what allowed us to have a leg up. We decided that no matter what the system/or paying audiences preferred, we were going give women the same shot as men in terms of college athletic scholarships. What we ended up with was 3 World Cups in 25 years. If we want to keep that dominance, adopt matching pay scales. This will encourage young US women to play the game professionally and it'll strengthen our programs and shore up our player pool. It'll be tricky, and it'll probably involve letting CBA agreements lapse and writing up new ones, but ultimately we can make it happen.<br /><br />

I will back whoever is the best candidate in the primaries (if it's Bernie, so be it). I will then back the most practical choice to remove Trump from office in the general election (even if it ends up not being my 1st choice in the primaries). It's likely this person will share many, if not most of my political and personal moral values, but not all of them, making them a good, but imperfect choice. I recognize that I am but 1 of millions of registered voters which means it'<span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline; font-family: inherit;">s not possible for everyone to have their dream candidate in office. Paraphrasing something I heard somewhere: The primaries are the time to vote ideologically, the general election is the time to vote pragmatically.</span></div>
<div class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px;">
All of this being said I still think the electoral college is an outdated piece of crap and believe that ranked choice elections would go far to solve a lot of the issues we have with campaign ethics.</div>

I was never on a team or in a league or anything, I think it was just group of other kids that happened to ask me to play because I was there and they needed another person. I was not a very good skater at all, but I somehow managed to score a goal against these other kids that were obviously good skaters and definitely knew how play hockey better than me (who was not very athletic). It was a very proud moment for me, but in the process of scoring the goal I had fallen on my back onto the ice. For anyone else this wouldn't have been a big deal. They'd have just gotten back up off their ass and high-fived their teammates. Not being a good skater I couldn't get back up on my own. I kept reaching out to the other kids to give me hand getting up, but they just kept high fiving me. Luckily to ease the embarrassment in my moment of victory my mother called out to me that it was time to go so I scooted over to the side boards, pulled myself up and shuffled off the ice. The lesson here is that just because someone succeeds doesn't mean they have their shit totally together.</p>
